It is my great pleasure to welcome the First Conference of the Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism, India which will be held in Lucknow, India on December 5 and 6, 2015. This First Conference, which is entitled, “CKD, Transplantation and Immunonutrition”, essentially inaugurates the scientific and professional activities of the Society.

This Society, which was recently founded by Doctors AK Balla, G Abraham, Anita Saxena, Anurag Gupta, Amit Gupta, Sunil Prakash and with Doctor DS Rana as Patron, will serve a very important role by promoting research and fostering professional education in India, particularly with regard to nutritional and metabolic disorders and their prevention and treatment in patients with kidney disease. There is a great need for organizations that promote research and education in this field, because nutritional and metabolic disorders contribute importantly to the morbidity of patients with kidney disease, and these disorders tend to be rather neglected in countries throughout the world. The founders of this Society are to be greatly commended for their vision for developing a professional and scientific society to address these problems. I have no doubt that this society will emphasize the particular needs of the citizens of India in their scientific and educational activities, and this will provide additional value to the goals and efforts of this Society and its members. I also commend the founders of this Society for their lead by being one of the first organizations to establish an affiliation with the International Society for Renal Nutrition and Metabolism.

The scientific program for this First Conference of the society is excellent and should provide much information and intellectual stimulation for the participants. This program will also serve as an excellent starting point to the endeavors of the Society, and will serve as an excellent prognosticator for a highly creative and productive future. Very truly yours,

Joel D. Kopple, MD
